Oregon veterans targeted by scams

In Oregon servicemembers, veterans and their spouses have reported more than 80 scams with an estimated $22,000 lost last year, according to BBB Scam Tracker.Among those, tax collection scams were the number one scam reported for military consumers in Oregon, followed by phishing scams. Other common scams that target the military and their family include: Imposter scams: These scams include the romance scam and grandparent scam. In the romance scam, scammers pose as real military members on social media and try to gain your trust and your cash. In the grandparent scam, imposters call the families of service members claiming the grandparent needs to wire money to cover their grandchild’s injury overseas.”

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will launch its new and improved community care program June 6, 2019, implementing portions of the VA Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks Act of 2018 (the MISSION Act), which both ends the Veterans Choice Program and establishes a new Veterans Community Care Program. Representative Credic Hayden on helping veterans health needs

Rep. Cedric Hayden, Roseburg Republican followed in his father’s footsteps both as dentist and legislator. Hayden is also a co-founder of Caring Hands Worldwide, a nonprofit organization that provides free dental care for people in need.

In the street clinics Hayden runs in Eugene, he performs dental work for mainly veterans. Many veterans are not covered for dental work through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The clinic also serves to find providers to people who need other medical services. Continue reading
